      <image:title>about us</image:title>
      <image:caption>Somnolentia Maine Coons is recently moved and currently based out of Tennessee, U.S. Our cattery is currently dual registered with both TICA and the CFA. Our kittens are typically registered through TICA, and we will provide cattery certificates upon request.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about us - Somnus. Owner. They/Them.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Somnus is the owner of Somnolentia Maine Coons, and they have been working with both tame and feral cats since they were a child! When they aren’t working, Somnus can be found sleeping with a pile of cats on top of them. Somnus has played video games so long that 8-bit Pokemon theme songs play in their head non-stop, and they spend their days arguing about who is the better Avatar—it’s Korra, btw.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about us - AJ. Photographer. He/Him.</image:title>
      <image:caption>AJ is a former dog-enthusiast-turned-cat-lover, is notorious for picking favorites among the cats, and refuses to help with the outstanding amount of litter boxes in the cattery. He spends his days baby-talking the cats, crying over pictures of the cats, stirring the meat for their food, and trying to work out while cats attack him. He is obsessed with cheese, and has an alternate ego called Lawyer AJ.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about us - Cerina. Youngest helper. She/Her.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Cerina loves playing with the cats and is obsessed with kittens! She helps out with cleaning up after the cats, scaring them awake, and suffers from cuteness agression. Her favorite cats are Ushiko and Isadora.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about us - Isabella. Cheating on her own cat. She/Her.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Isabella is the go-to helper when Somnus and AJ are out-of-town and socialized several of the most recent kittens. She spends her time loving on her own cat, Toothless (pictured here), contemplating quitting her job, and staring at her ceiling in a depressive funk.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about us - Let’s go, lesbians!!</image:title>
      <image:caption>This cattery is queer-owned and operated, and we are happy to have our kittens in homes where we know they’ll be safe, happy, and loved. Unfortunately, if you’re homophobic, transphobic, etc., then it might be best if you look elsewhere for a kitten.</image:caption>

      <image:title>the process - adoptions.</image:title>
      <image:caption>we try to make adoptions as simple and clear as possible, while still making sure that each kitten receives the most care, love, and the best-fitting home possible. adoptions begin when you select “contact us” and submit an application form. once approved, you submit a $500 non-refundable deposit, and once a litter is at an appropriate age (usually around 4 months) you can select your kitten. kittens will be selected in order that deposits are received, but if we cannot get ahold of you within a 48-hour window, the person with the next deposit slot will have their chance to pick a kitten. we do not currently have kittens available to go to other breeding programs. kittens will be available to go to their new homes sometime around 4 months of age, sometimes a little longer. when it comes time for you to take your kitten home, you may either pick the kitten up from us here in our current location of TN or pay for us to deliver the kitten directly to you (currently only within the U.S). we are not currently shipping our kittens or allowing them to be picked up by third parties.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/61e3256cf098d83c246ef4e1/361aa638-ece1-497c-9f3b-4fe638faa544/IMG_0407.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>the process - terms and conditions.</image:title>
      <image:caption>We do need to have contracts in place in order to protect the safety and well-being of our cats. The basics protect the buyer, us, and the kittens. The kittens will be spayed/neutered before they are sent to their new homes, microchipped, and up to date on shots. The kittens need to have a companion of some sort, whether that be another cat in the home, or a cat-friendly dog. We are strong believers in outside time for you cat, but not free-range—too many house cats end up lost, stolen, or hurt when they are allowed to roam freely (this is not referencing feral colonies, which are perfectly fine but not where our Maine coons are headed). Maine coons can be harness-trained or allowed out into escape-proof cat enclosure. We have a cat-proof fence system that keeps our cats safe from exposure to other animals, and within the boundaries of our property. As the buyer, you may be asked to allow a home inspection, provide proof of a multi-pet household, and allow visits to check on the welfare of the cat. Many pets are resold or given away once they are out of their “cute kitten phase”, and that is not acceptable. No matter the age, if you no longer want your cat, it must be returned to the cattery. You will not be refunded your purchase price under those circumstances. If you give the cat to a shelter, rescue, or even rehome the cat without cattery permission you are liable to be taken to court. Your initial deposit is non-refundable, and the rest is to be paid before you may pick up your new kitten.</image:caption>

      <image:title>the process - what to expect from us.</image:title>
      <image:caption>When you contact us, you can expect clear communication and upfront discussions about how we run our cattery and what our kittens are like. We have full-time jobs on top of running our cattery, so we will get back to you as soon as we are able. When you pick out a kitten, you can expect a kitten that is free from health issues. All parents have been tested and cleared for genetic diseases, and if the kitten were to somehow die from a hereditary disease within its first year with you, we will refund the purchase price and replace the kitten. we are capable of doing both photos and videos so that you are kept in the know about how your chosen kitten is doing.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>pallet Pallet was found off a freight truck at 4 AM in the morning, cowering underneath a pallet. The only one out of their two other siblings that made it, Pallet now loves riding on short peoples’ shoulders, crying during the humans’ showers, stealing ramen, and generally being a nuisance.</image:caption>

      <image:title>raw diet - The Proteins.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Our Maine Coons are fed a diet of raw meat consisting of chicken, duck, quail, rabbit, goose, and (sometimes) turkey. Their food is supplemented with a vitamin slurry of vitamin B, vitamin E, Taurine, and fish oil. While chicken is the most cost-efficient, pound for pound the raw meat diet is going to be cheaper than trying to find a quality dry food brand. Quail and geese are fed as novelty proteins, but turkey stinks too much for us to use it often.</image:caption>

      <image:title>raw diet - The Supplier.</image:title>
      <image:caption>The raw meat is procured from Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow which offers a blend of ground raw meat, bones, and organs in an 80/10/10 ratio, which is ideal for cats. They offer every one of the proteins we look for, and in a variety of cuts as well.</image:caption>

      <image:title>raw diet - Enthusiastic Eaters.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Our Maine Coons love the raw diet, and our kittens are often referred to affectionately as the “meat babies”. The kittens are easily switched over to dry food depending on what is best for the buyer, but they are healthier when fed fresh meat.</image:caption>

      <image:title>raw diet - Reluctant Eaters.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Reluctant cats can be enticed with tidbits such as crushed treats, a sprinkle of Fortiflora Probiotics, or even parmesan cheese. While our older rescues have taken much longer to come around to a new diet, they can be found from time to time licking up the trays after the other cats have eaten. Our reluctant rescues (and one troublemaking Maine Coon) enjoy Orijen Dry Cat food and Acana Dry Cat food. Remember—some cats take longer than others to adjust, and its important to take your time transitioning so that your cat’s health is never in danger.</image:caption>
